Josiah Nwaokwa



Josiah Nwaokwa, PMHNP-BC, MSN was born and raised in Owerri, Imo state, Nigeria. He started his Nursing career at Qsborough Community College Bayside, NY where he studied Applied Sciences with a major in Nursing. After becoming a registered nurse, he obtained his BSN from Chamberlain College of nursing, Missouri and thereafter obtained his MSN from Stony Brook University, Long Island NY.

After becoming a registered nurse, he obtained his BSN from Chamberlain College of nursing, Missouri and thereafter obtained his MSN from Stony Brook University, Long Island NY. After his initial licensure by New York State Board of Nursing, he became board certified as a Psychiatric mental health nurse Practitioner by The American Nursing Credentialing Center. In course of his study, he participated in a Federal government-sponsored research program, “Youths at Risk” and diversified his skills from psychiatric care of geriatric population to child and adolescents. Having worked in different settings as a nurse, he carried that passion into his advanced practice.

Currently, he provides psychiatric care for the population with severe mental illness (SMI), General Mental health (GMH) illness, addiction and those with behavior problems both in the out-patient and in-patient settings. Nwaokwa is passionate about recovery and restoration of quality of life to his patients’ and believes there is no success until this goal is achieved.
