Behavioral Therapy

What is Behavioral Therapy?

Behavioral therapy is a crucial step in curing alcohol and opioid addiction.

Many times addicts rely on their instincts and habits to move forward in life. These habits can be perpetuated by drugs and begin leading users down the wrong paths of stealing, lying, missing responsibilities, and ignoring social interaction. Provider-led behavioral therapy at 2nd Chance Treatment Center is integrated into medication management visits, and consists of Motivational Interviewing and Supportive Therapy techniques. Our providers are thoroughly trained in Motivational Enhancement Therapy and all treatment plans incorporate behavioral therapy to help ensure all aspects of care are being addressed.

Behavioral Therapy Methods

2nd Chance incorporates two main forms of behavioral therapy, and they are used in specific ways for each patient. By bringing this kind of program to our patients, we are able to begin replacing their current habits that might promote drug use, with more holistic tendencies.

Motivational Interviewing

A method that works on facilitating and engaging intrinsic motivation within the patient in order to instigate a change in behavior. Motivational Interviewing is a goal-oriented, patient-centered counseling style for eliciting behavior change by helping patients to explore and resolve ambivalence.

Motivational interviewing is non-judgmental, non-confrontational, and non-adversarial.

Supportive Therapy

The approach attempts to increase the patient’s awareness of the potential problems caused, consequences experienced, and risks faced as a result of the substance use in question. The main goals of motivational interviewing are to engage patients, elicit change talk, and evoke motivation to make positive changes from the patient.
